This book is a creepy thriller that will keep kids turning pages! In the town of Westfield, middle school aged kids seem to go missing every 6 years. When one of Charlie's classmates, Johnny Howardwick, disappears without a trace, everyone assumes he simply ran away. However, Charlie is plagued by this disappearance for another reason: his father died in a car accident that very night when he had gone out looking for him. Now at the end of the school year, Johnny and his friends are bothered by something new-it seems Johnny's very existence was wiped away completely as his picture does not appear in the yearbook at all, even in images where he definitely should be! The boys reach out to Mr. Cotter, one of their teachers and the yearbook sponsor for answers. Their first meeting is not what they expected!

There's something deeper going on in the town than simply coincidental runaways and Charlie and his friends are determined to find out! Will they solve the mystery or will this summertime adventure turn even deadlier? 

Picture Unavailable is set for publication on October 25, 2022, right before Halloween! I highly encourage kids to find this book and read it. I loved it!

I think some very important conversations can be had across all color lines and ages if a lot of people read this book. Gleanings by Neal Shusterman

Gleanings  is Neal Shusterman's most recent installment of The Arc of the Scythe series. This collection of short stories, written by a variety of authors, will take readers through a bunch of characters, both old and new, timelines, and settings as the mythology of this world (and world's beyond) is explored and delved more deeply into. Some of these imaginings are longer than others, but all will keep the reader turning the page! As a teacher, one idea that floated through my head was having my students creatively explore and attempt writing their own vision or installment to Shusterman's beautifully scary world-oh the possibilities! -TK
